CATARACT

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Cataracts often develop slowly and can affect one or both eyes.

Symptoms 

There are several symptoms of Cataracts. These include:

  • Blurry vision

  • Halos around light

  • Sensitivity to light and glare

  • Increasing difficulty with vision at night

  • Fading or yellowing of colors

  • Double vision in a single eye

  • Frequent changes in eye glasses or contact lenses

Causes 

There are several reasons for a Cataract. These include :

  • Ageing or injury changes the tissue that makes up your eye's lens.

  • Inherited genetic disorders

  • Eye conditions, past eye surgery or medical conditions such as diabetes.

  • Long-term use of steroid medications.

Risk factors

There are several reasons for a Cataract. These include :

  • Diabetes

  • Smoking tobacco

  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight

  • Alcohol

  • Increasing age

  • Obesity

  • High blood pressure

  • Previous eye surgery

  • Excessive exposure to sunlight
